«Awareness Raising Measures for Water Saving» project joins the UNV film festival!
The footage from the workshop event of the project AWARENESS RAISING MEASURE FOR WATER SAVING, which is run and coordinated by AKTI Project and Research Centre and the TC Chamber of Environmental Engineers, was selected for the online UNV film festival!

The online festival-which started at 14:00 GMT +12 on 4 December-crossed the globe, stopping in 12 time zones to see how voluntary action is making a difference in tackling challenges related to environment, hunger, education, maternal health, gender equality, and HIV/AIDs.
Fifth stop (GMT +4 to +2): Kenya and Cyprus.
The world is still on track to halve poverty rates by 2015, but the global economic crisis has slowed progress. In Welcome to Kibera a group of young Kenyan volunteers, who live in a slum of almost one million people, seek to shed light on the conditions where they live. 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, in Cyprus, volunteers from both sides of the conflict are working together, for the first time, to meet common environmental concerns – the most pressing of these being water resource management. This island faces increasing water shortages due to population growth and climate change. 8 minutes
Ναυτική Εβδομάδα 2010
Απο 20 έως 27 Ιουνίου 2010, θα πραγματοποιηθεί στην Κύπρο η «Ναυτική Εβδομάδα 2010».
Ο θεσμός της Ναυτικής Εβδομάδας εκτελείται κάθε δύο χρόνια και κατά τη διάρκεια του προγραμματίζονται εκδηλώσεις που δίνουν την ευκαιρία στο κοινό να βρεθεί κοντά στο Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, να γνωρίσει τις δυνατότητες του, να συναντηθεί με τους ανθρώπους και τους φορείς που απασχολούνται με τη θάλασσα και να αντιληφθεί τη σημασία της Εμπορικής Ναυτιλίας, του σημαντικότερου οικονομικού πόρου της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας. Δίδεται επίσης η ευκαιρία στο προσωπικό του Ναυτικού, να προβάλει τη θάλασσα ως παράγοντα εθνικής και οικονομικής ισχύος
Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη ότι η Κύπρος είναι κράτος – νησί σε μία θέση σταυροδρόμι για τις θαλάσσιες συγκοινωνίες αλλά ο πληθυσμός της δεν ασχολείται ιδιαίτερα με το στοιχείο της θάλασσας εύκολα γίνεται κατανοητό γιατί καθιερώθηκε η Ναυτική Εβδομάδα.
Συντονιστής της Ναυτικής Εβδομάδας είναι η Διοίκηση Ναυτικού και σε αυτήν συμμετέχουν ως συνδιοργανωτές και οι λοιποί φορείς και υπηρεσίες που έχουν σχέση με τη θάλασσα όπως το Τμήμα Εμπορικής Ναυτιλίας, το Κυπριακό Ναυτιλιακό Επιμελητήριο, το Τμήμα Αλιείας, o CYMEPA, η Λιμενική και Ναυτική Αστυνομία, οι Ναυτικοί Όμιλοι και οι Ομοσπονδίες Ναυτικών Αθλημάτων. Φέτος στους συνδιοργανωτές περιλαμβάνονται επίσης οι Δήμοι Λεμεσού, Πάφου και Παραλιμνίου και η κοινότητα Πελενδρίου
Για πρώτη φορά έγιναν εκδηλώσεις υπό μορφή Ναυτικού Τριημέρου τον Αύγουστο του 2004. Επειδή το κοινό σχολίασε την όλη ιδέα ευμενώς και ως αναγκαία, λήφθηκε η απόφαση αρχικά όπως ο θεσμός της Ναυτικής Εβδομάδας να καθιερωθεί σε ετήσια βάση. Εκδηλώσεις Ναυτικής Εβδομάδας έγιναν για πρώτη φορά το 2005 οι οποίες ξεκίνησαν από την Ευρύχου. Το 2006 οι εκδηλώσεις ξεκίνησαν από τα Λεύκαρα και έκτοτε αποφασίσθηκε όπως η Ναυτική Εβδομάδα να γίνεται κάθε 2 χρόνια. To 2008 οι εκδηλώσεις ξεκίνησαν από τον Κόρνο.
Η έναρξη της Ναυτικής Εβδομάδας γίνεται πάντα από μία Κοινότητα ή ένα Δήμο της ενδοχώρας για να δωθεί η ευκαιρία γνωριμίας των κατοίκων αυτών με τη θάλασσα και τον κόσμο της. Φέτος επιλέγηκε το χωριό Πελένδρι της επαρχίας Λεμεσού. Παράλληλα τα πλοία του Ναυτικού καταπλέουν σε παραλιακές περιοχές όπου γίνονται διάφορες εκδηλώσεις με την βοήθεια των Δήμων. Φέτος επιλέγηκε το Παραλίμνι, η Πάφος και βέβαια η Λεμεσός όπου παντοτε γίνεται η κορύφωση των εκδηλώσεων και η λήξη της Ναυτικής Εβδομάδας.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας θα πραγματοποιηθούν:
- Ομιλίες και Διαλέξεις
- Καλλιτεχνικές Εκδήλωσεις (Συμμετοχή ΣΜΕΦ, Χορευτικών ομίλων κλπ)
- Επίσκεψη κοινού στα πλοία
- Αγώνες αθλημάτων Beach-Volley, Kωπηλασίας, Iστιοπλοΐας, Θαλάσσιου Σκί και Θαλάσσιου Τζέτ Σκι.
- Καθαρισμός παραλιών και βυθού από προσωπικό του Ναυτικού και της Λιμενικής Αστυνομίας σε συνεργασία με τον CYMEPA
- Σεμινάριο για τις Επιπτώσεις των Κλιματικών Αλλαγών στη θάλασσα
- Αιμοδοσία
- Φιλανθρωπικό ράλλυ ιστορικού αυτοκινήτου.
Όλες οι εκδηλώσεις είναι ανοικτές για το κοινό.
Η Ναυτική Εβδομάδα στοχεύει:
- Στην προβολή του Ναυτικού.
- Στη διατήρηση της αγάπης προς τη θάλασσα και στην ανάπτυξη του ναυτικού πνεύματος στους νέους για την προσέλκυσή τους στα ναυτικά επαγγέλματα.
Στην ανάπτυξη και ενίσχυση του θαλασσίου αθλητισμού και των σχετιζομένων με τη θάλασσα εκδηλώσεων - Στη διατήρηση της επαφής με το ναυτικό, των κατοίκων ακριτικών παραθαλάσσιων περιοχών αλλά και των κατοίκων περιοχών της ενδοχώρας και τέλος
- Στην επίδειξη του κοινωνικού προσώπου του Πολεμικού Ναυτικού και των φορέων που ασχολείται με τη θάλασσα.
Η Ναυτική Εβδομάδα δεν είναι υπόθεση μόνο των φορέων του κράτους που ασχολούνται με την θάλασσα αλλά όλων και έτσι θα πρέπει να την αντιληφθούμε.
World Environment Day 2010
AKTI Project and Research Centre together with The International School of Paphos are organizing a celebration event in Paphos for the World Environment Day 2010, on 18th June 2010. Within this content, a poster competition has been launched for the school children titled ‘Exercise and fun on the beach, always go together!’. During the event an introduction to the Cyprus biodiversity will be presented by environmental experts of AKTI. In addition, the children’s art works will be exhibited and prizes will be awarded to the winners of the five best posters. The celebration is organized within the framework of the project ‘Youth in Action for Sustainable Living’ which is implemented with support from the European Programme Youth in Action – Action 1.2 Youth Initiative (CY-12-15-2008-R5). Environment Day 2010: 5 June, celebration in Nicosia
AKTI supports and participates in the celebration for the Environment Day 2010, in Nicosia , 5 June, Aglantzia Park (St George Park), from 16:30 – 19:30. The event is under the auspices of the Minister of Environment, and co-organised by the Ministry of Environment, Aglantzia Municipality and the Environmental NGOs of Cyprus. Be there!!! Read More

Environmental Challenges for Civil Society in a United Cyprus

Green House
AKTI supports the 3rd Environmental Festival, organized by radio ASTRA. The festival will take place the 11th of October, from 3:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon at Athalassa Park – St George Aglantzia. The Forestry Department supports the event. AKTI will be there with the Mobile Information Centre and will present a home composting exhibition, will give information for energy saving homes and many other activities.
AKTI with the ELDERS
Director of AKTI Mr Michael Loizides was invited and participated at the reception with civil society representatives in honour of The Elders Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter and Lakhdar Brahimi. The meeting was very interesting and Mr Loizides had the chance to discuss with Mr Tutu and Mr Carter on issues relevant to the Cyprus problem, the peacebuilding process and the present situation in Cyprus.
The event was organised by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and the United Nations Development Programme Action for Cooperation and Trust, on Wednesday, 8 October 2008 at the Residence of UNPA, in Nicosia – Cyprus.
