Green Enough project celebrates Global Recycling Day with 4 top tips for improving recycling management.

To celebrate Global Recycling Day on 18th March the Green Enough Project is sharing its 4 top tips to help you recycle your waste better.

Have you ever wondered how your plastic water bottle is made? Or maybe thought about what happens to your rubbish after you have thrown it in the bin. Each year humans use billion of tons of the earth’s natural resources to support our current lifestyles. We use water to grow crops, cut down trees to make cardboard and paper, and mine coal and oil to make plastic and fuel cars. The earth’s natural resources are limited however, and we are currently using these resources more quickly than the earth can regenerate them. The unsustainable use of natural resources is a key contributor to climate change, driving water shortages, pollution, and rising global temperatures.

As part of our individual responsibility to minimise climate change, we should each be considering how we can use fewer natural resources and make better use of resources that we have already consumed. Recycling is a key action that we can all be doing to achieve this.

Recycling is a process of converting waste into new materials and objects. For the public, this is a simpler process which involves sorting your waste. Yet, in Europe, less than a third of the plastic waste is recycled. To raise awareness for the opportunities and importance of recycling the Green Enough project is joining others in celebrating Global Recycling Day on 18th March. Each year this day encourages all of us to look at our waste in a new light. To mark Global Recycling Day, the partners of the Green Enough project are sharing their top tips for recycling better:

1. Aim to reduce and reuse rather than recycle.

Recycling is a great initiative that we should all be doing. But it is better to reduce the amount of waste that we make in the first place. Try to buy only what you need, choose products with less packaging and look for items that you can re-use.

2. Check which recycling waste your local authority collects.

Not every authority recycles the same materials in the same way. Adding things that might not be recycled or accepted by your local authority might lead to contamination and more waste production. You can find out which items your local authority helps to recycle by periodically checking online or contacting them directly.

3. Make sure it’s clean, dry and empty.

Recyclables must be empty, clean and dry to prevent contamination with other recyclables during collection and processing.

4. Consider starting your own compost bin.

Composting is an effective way to recycle your food scraps and garden waste and also provide you with high quality soil nutrients for your plants. Find out how to get started at

These are just a few tips to get you started. We wish you luck on your recycling adventure. To find out more about the Green Enough project, click here.

Green Enough project partners meet for the first time in Piraeus, Greece

According to the World Meteorological Organisation changes to global and local climate have negatively affected millions of people and cost billions in 2022 alone. Many of those people impacted have a disability.

Despite not only being more vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change, persons with disabilities are also more likely to be excluded from conversations and actions to protect and promote rights to a clean and healthy environment.

In this context, the new Erasmus+ project, Green Enough, aims to promote the inclusion of people with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in climate change conversations. It will also empower them to make their own decisions to implement sustainable practices.

On 1st – 2nd February 2023 ΑΚΤΙ met the Green Enough project partners for the first time in Piraeus, Greece. Here they discussed the development of the project’s Augmented Reality app, that will help to educate adults with disabilities on the basic principles of recycling as well as the foundations for the Green Enough training course for professionals.

Find out more αbout the project and its first meeting here.

AdvocaCY: A Questionnaire for Civil Society in Cyprus

AKTI is currently conducting a survey aiming to capture the needs and barriers of CSOs on the island and receive their recommendations as to what needs to change for them to be better able to achieve their goals.

Are you part of a Cyprus-based CSO? We would truly appreciate your support in our efforts by sharing your responses with us, but also by disseminating the survey within your network. The Questionnaire can be found below, in English, Greek and Turkish, and takes less than 10 mins to complete.

TR: https://forms.gle/w3bmXSqUPWRvB5ty6

GR: https://forms.gle/1Jn5NrPWhK3p2NZE8

The responses to this questionnaire will form the basis for developing a solution-oriented Policy Tool with solutions to inherent problems of Cypriot Civil Society. With “Knowledge leads to awareness; Awareness leads to change” as its motto, this project aims to create synergies and join forces among CSOs and informal groups and to build networks of active citizens across the divide. Through its solution-oriented approach, AdvocaCY aims to build skills and capacity and, encourage citizens to advocate for their right to a sustainable environment. The project also aims to boost bi-communal cooperation on promoting sustainability and transforming this collaboration into a peace building tool.

The ‘’AdvocaCY: Participate, learn, decide, challenge: Stronger Cypriot Civil Society for sustainability, advocacy, and change! ‘’project benefits from a grant under the Active Citizens Fund Cyprus programme, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, through the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021.

The project is implemented by AKTI Project and Research Centre in collaboration with the organizations of MASDER and Norsensus Mediaforum.T
