“Environment pays the bill for growth!” This was one of many thought-provoking insights at the first RESIsles Co-creation Café on active citizenship and the climate crisis, hosted by AKTI.

18 dynamic young people from Cyprus, Greece, the Netherlands, and Austria gathered at AKTI’s offices on Friday, July 26, 2024, to discuss and exchange ideas on two key questions:

Why aren’t more people active citizens?
Common reasons included:
a) Feeling their efforts won’t make a difference
b) Lack of knowledge about policies or how to get involved 📚
c) Limited time and energy ⏳

What’s needed to boost participation?
Ideas included:
a) Ensuring young people feel heard and valued
b) Integrating active citizenship into the education system up to the university level
c) Offering incentives and creating a reward system to encourage participation until it becomes a natural mindset

What a fantastic day filled with truly meaningful conversations!

The RESIsles project is funded by the European Union.
