In just 2 weeks, we visited 16 schools and spread the word about used cooking oil (UCO) recycling and sustainable living to nearly 1,800 students.
Here’s what made it unforgettable:
Kissonerga Kindergarten used last year’s UCO recycling funds to buy a wood drill, garden hoses, and tools for the garden. Students even hit the streets to raise awareness about UCO collection in their neighborhood!
At the 7th Primary School of Paphos, a powerful partnership with local restaurant “Riganato” (owned by a student’s parent) boosted the school’s UCO collection. The school purchased garden tools, recycling bins, and plans to add wooden bins to the yard. As the principal said: “With Tiganokinisi, we help both our school and the planet.”
Tremithousa Primary School showed us what hands-on environmental education looks like: annual community clean-ups, a thriving vegetable garden, and a composting system that nourishes it. From weeding to harvesting, students grow everything from tomatoes and celery to parsley, lettuce and more!
Tsada-Koili Primary School used their recycling funds in the sweetest way—buying benches so students can relax and connect during breaks.
